Four more classmates!

Gary Schultz, Dan Quinn, Sharon Rubenstein and Patrick Kirk (not pictured) have all bought their tickets, bringing the classmate count to 82, 105 total, with three weeks to go!  Sharon will be making her way here from San Francisco, while the other three will all be coming from New Jersey.  It is especially good to hear that Dan will be joining us, as he was previously listed as "Haven't heard from" in our Who's going? list.

From Suzy Hering Jones-

Hi everyone I am very sorry to tell you this but I will not be able to attend as planned. I just came home last night from a 2 day hospital stay after what they first thought was a possible stroke but later determined to be Bell's Palsy. The way I look right now I am ready for Halloween (I will be the Joker this year) but definitely not ready to see you guys. Also I have a compromised immune system again due some previous more serious issues and flying or being in crowds isn't in their top 10 things for me to do in the next few months!
I know you will all have a terrific time and I am looking forward to seeing all of the pictures!
Suzy Hering Jones

She wore Levi's, was crazy about the Stones, loved Wild Horses and had a crush on a guy named Frank.   Kit Villani Argenti reminded us of all this when she completed her Classmate Profile Questionnaire.  Check the Classmate Profile of Kit and many other members of the Class of '75, and if you haven't yet completed your questionnaire, what are you waiting for?

Mike Chico will be joing us on October 17.  Mike has stayed in the area here, and still lives in Bergen County.  We look forward to seeing him!

PVHS Homecoming - This Saturday!

Pascack Valley High School Principal Tom DeMaio has extended his invitation to our class to attend the second annual Homecoming BBQ. The barbecue will be held adjacent to the football field on Saturday, September 26, 2015 from 11:30 a.m- 4:30 p.m. while the PVHS football team takes on West Milford High School at 1:00 p.m.

The event will feature food, music, and fun, an will be a great opportunity to hang out with some old classmates at our old stomping grouds. The barbecue will be held rain or shine (if there is inclement weather the event will be held inside the school). Admission to the BBQ is $10 for adults and students and $7 for children 10 years old and under.

If you're interested in joining us, send us an email at admin@pvhs75.com.

Saturday, September 21, 2015

We are pleased to welcome Sue Clark Dauria, who just purchased her ticket to the Main Event.

Sunday, September 20, 2015

Three more classmates!

Wendy Piper Stitz, Alice Scotten and Nancy Dinneny Corcoran-Davidoff have each just bought their tickets for the October 17 Main Event! Wendy is driving 12 hours from her home in North Carolina to join us, while Alice is coming from Delaware.  Nancy, forever a Jersey girl, still lives in Bergen County and was kind enough to give a nice donation, for which we are thankful!

With about four weeks to go, we are well beyond our numbers for the 35 year reunion.  We now have 77 classmates paid, 98 attendees altogether, compaired with 74 and 87, respectively, in 2010. We are on our way to reaching our target of 100 classmates!

Tour Scheduled

The tour of Pascack Valley High School has been scheduled Saturday afternoon of Reunion Weekend, October17, 2015, at 2:00 pm.  For those who attended back in 2010, you know that this was one of the highlights of the weekend.  Principal Tom DeMaio was kind enough to make special arrangements for us, as was Assistant Principal John Puccio who will be volunteering his time to lead the tour.  Assisting will be Kathie Schaefer Warner's daughter, PV senior Janine Warner.

$10.00 Reunion Tickets Available

From the early planning stages of our reunion, it has been our main objective to see to it that none of our classmates misses out on this great event because of costs.  We want to make sure that everyone who wants to attend, does attend.  To that end, we are now able to offer a very limited number of $10.00 tickets to those classmates who might otherwise not be able to join in the festivities.  This offer is open only to classmates, and not to guests, and will be sold on a first come, first served basis.  We also would ask if your financial situation permits, a full price ticket may be purchased here.

Thursday, September 17,2015

Diane Fulcher Koester sends her regrets, along with a very nice donation.  Thanks, Diane!

Diane writes:

Hi

This is Diane Fulcher Koester.  I do not think I will be able to come out east for our reunion.

Although I say that, I have learned to never say never.  I one time said I would not move cross country and here I am living outside Seattle Washington.  As much as I would love to come to see everyone, I have once again gone back to school and will will be starting work in October.  I have been known to do things on a spur of the moment, so if I can last minute, I will let you know.  I have made a donation either way.  Enjoy and please take lots of photos.

Thanks.

Diane

Diane adds:

Also please tell anyone if they head out to see beautiful Seattle let me know

New PV Indian logo may be in the works

The Record - September 8, 2015

HILLSDALE – Pascack Valley High School’s graphic design students will be tasked with creating an alternative logo to replace the school’s previous “Indian Head” logo, the district’s School Board President Jeffrey Steinfeld said on Tuesday night.

The district intends to reach out to the Ramapough Lenape Nation to get input on the designs, Steinfeld said, before choosing a new one. The goal, Steinfeld said, is to create a logo that is not “offensive.”

“One of my concerns about a lot of the discussion here is – I don’t know if the Lenape Indians would say if the old logo was offensive or not,” Steinfeld said after the district’s Board of Education meeting on Tuesday night. “But I don’t think we, as non-Native Americans, can make that determination. That’s why I would like to work with members of the Lenape Nation.”

Steinfeld said the new logo would likely have some Native American influence in it.

Add three more to the list!  Peggie Burke, Neil Hudes and Stacye Latz Page are all coming to the Reunion.  While we saw Peggie and Stacye in 2010, Neil is a reunion newcomer.  He joins Steve Hager, Julie Bateman Wolf and Dave Speiser as one of four classmates attending the reunion who moved before senior year, never receiving their PV diplomas.

We now have 93 people who will be attending the Main Event.

Wednesday, September 9, 2015

  • Good news!  We've been able to hold ticket prices for the Main Event to $65.00.  As the result of negotiating a reduction of $5.00 per person cost with the caterer, generous donations, advertising revenue and good ticket sales, we are able to keep the price of tickets down through the deadline!
  • On September 8, 2015, eleven classmates gathered at Domani in Hillsdale for our Reunion Tune-up.  We were joined by Tom Shine, Greg Goodell, Jordan DeFlora, Debby Bucky Birrer, Kerry Fay Craffey, Bob Zorowitz, Richard Spielmann, John Murano, Art Stone, Bob Hubbard and Kathie Schaefer Warner.  We all enjoyed some good Italian food, and will be returning on Friday, October 16 for "On Deck at Domani" kicking off Reunion Weekend!

Tuesday, September 8, 2015

Linda Snyder Donohue and Ellen Schmidt Odenath have taken advantage of the Labor Day sale, and purchased their tickets to the main event.  Linda was able to attend the 2010 reunion, but this may be Ellen’s first (please correct us, Ellen, if we’re wrong).  And thanks, Ellen, for the donation!

Sadly, Allison Moorehead will not be attending, as she shares with us:

With a heavy heart I will not be able to attend. I was so hoping I could pull it off
My plate is full what with being a single mom of a 16 yr old girl- taking in a 15 yr old German foreign exchange student 1 week ago and living 2000 miles away in AZ.
I hope everyone has a great time (which I know you all will). Plz take loads of pics, please, of everyone!!!
I will be thinking of all of you....

Lov from the desert...
Allison

This weekend, Gloria Tomitsch Lituma and Jer Janssen each bought tickets and will be attending October 17, 2015.  Gloria had been uncertain as to whether she'd be able to make it, as she was an expectant grandmother of twins, scheduled to arrive around the time of the Main Event.  Fortunately, the young kids showed maturity and consideration, arriving early so that grandma could avoid the scheduling conflict.  We are also looking forward to seeing Jer, who will be making the trek from her home in Pennslyvania.

This brings our total attendees to 87, which is the same number of people we had attend our 35th in 2010.  And that's with almost six weeks to go!  As is usually the case, we expect a lot of ticket sales in the weeks immediately preceding the event, making for a big turnout.

Saturday, September 5, 2015

We are pleased to announce that Jeff and Lois Jasper have graciously accepted our invitation, and will both be joining us for the main event on October 17, 2015.  As our freshman class advisor, Jeff was one of the first teachers to have spoken to us as students of Pascack Valley High School way back in 1971, when he concluded his introduction at our opening assembly with the old Art Metrano magician routine, "magically" making his fingers jump from one hand to the other while humming some ridiculous musical accompaniment.  What a way to break the ice!  Jeff was a great inspiration to us during our short time at Valley, and continues to be a steady, positive guiding force for the students he teaches, coaches and counsels as he begins the 2015-2016 school year at PV.

Friday, September 5, 2015

Try your hand at classmate trivia!  Every Wednesday and Sunday we will ask 5 new questions concerning little known or hardly remembered facts about the members of the class of 1975 on the column to your right. Answer the questions here before the next round of questions are posted.  The classmate with the most correct answers between now and Oct. 17 will win a $25 American Express gift card which will be awarded at the reunion.  Contest open to members of the classs of 1975 attending the reunion only.  Contest not open to members of the reunion committee, their families, and residents of North Dakota. : )  Decisions of the judges may be arbitrary but in any event, are final.

PV INDIAN LOGO ON THE WAY OUT

The Record - September 3, 2015

In Pascack Valley High’s new logo, a quest for sensitivity

Pascack Valley High School will phase out its “Indian Head” logo — a stark rendering of a Native American warrior with a painted face and a Mohawk haircut — and replace it with the initials “PV” in a simple serif font, the district’s superintendent said this week.

The change, which will unfold gradually as stationery stocks are depleted and equipment and uniforms wear out, is the latest local example of a movement away from stereotypical depictions of Native Americans among team logos and mascots that is playing out nationally, from the youth level to the top echelons of professional sports.

Once again, the white man eradicates the Indian! This is a matter of local heritage and pride! I have never seen any PV Indian in mockery of The People Who Inhabited this Land before White People stole, sickened, and destroyed their native culture! PV '75 Pride! Proud of the Smoke Signal, the Warrior, the Tribe!

Tom Shine will be joining us for Reunion Weekend.  Tom will also be celebrating his fifth anniversary as police chief in Old Tappan, having been appointed in October 2010, and was most recently seen at the class photo in July.

Tuesday, September 1, 2015

Mary Alosio, Kathy Kelly Heyboer and Sandy Kaczala Irwin have all bought here tickets for the reunion.  While Kathy was around for our 35 year reunion, neither Mary nor Sandy have been around since at least the 20 year reunion back in 1995.  Sandy, however, did attend the class photo back in July as well as the Iron Horse afterwards.  We look forward to seeing them all!

Friday, August 28, 2015

Plans have been finalized for our kick-off to Reunion weekend on Friday, October 16!

Realizing that people have different interests, we've made the evening's events and times flexible, allowing people to do what they want to do, when they want to do it.

For those interested in attending the home football game against Old Tappan, we will meet at the high school at 5:30 pm for the 6:00 pm game.

At 7:30 pm it’s “On Deck at Domani.”  Those who are not interested in the game or spending much time there will begin congregating at the bar at Domani restaurant in Hillsdale at 7:00 pm, with the buffet dinner starting at 7:30 pm. Owner Ray Lazzaro has been very accommodating, giving us the private party room and promising to keep bringing out the food as long as people keep coming.  That means those classmates who would like to stay at the football game until the end can arrive fashionably late at Domani and not miss any of their great food.

Our menu for the evening will be:

Fried calamari
Domani salad
Stuffed mushrooms
Bruschetta
Penne vodka
Penne domani
Chicken francese
Chicken marsala
Veal pizzaiola
Epplant rollatini
Assorted italian dessert (cannoli and cookies etc)

The cost will be $30.00 per person, tax and gratuity included, with a cash bar.  Tickets for “On Deck at Domani” will go on sale next week.  Domani is located at the King’s Shopping Plaza, formerly the Stop & Shop/MediMart plaza in Hillsdale.

While we have the private party room at Domani until midnight and people are welcome to stay until that time, at about 10:30 pm or so, we will start heading over to Lou’s Tavern in Hillsdale, where many of us will hang out till closing time.

The evening's events promise to be a great start to a great weekend!  We look forward to seeing everyone there!

Thursday, August 27, 2015

Janet Grapengeter informs us that she had to make the difficult choice between spending October 17 in Mahwah with us, or spending it with her husband and their daughter on the Eiffel Tower, celebrating Megan's 20th birthday.  Megan is a junior at Brown, studying in Paris.

Okay, maybe it wasn't such a difficult decision. Janet sends her regrets and regards, but plans on seeing everyone for the 45th.  She shares:

"All is well. Being an empty nester has its advantages....my husband and I are back to our favorite hobby, racing sailboats, and travelling whenever we can fit it in.  Daughter Megan is a two time all-American sailor at Brown majoring in International Relations (hence the semester in Paris.)

We will toast to the 40th from the Eiffel Tower where we will be dining and celebrating Megan's 20th birthday!  Please give my regards to all!

Wednesday, August 26, 2015

As many of you know, in early July, eighteen of us gathered at PVHS for our "class photo," which was followed by a get together at the Iron Horse.  As shown in the photo above, we all had a great time getting together and enjoying the company of our old classmates.

Well, we're doing it again, but without the photos.

On Tuesday, September 8, 2015  at 7:30 pm, we will be having our Reunion Tune-up at the party room at Domani (picture below), the same venue at which we will have our Friday dinner the night before the Reunion Main Event.  Nothing fancy!  We'll just be sitting down for a good meal and great conversation.  If you're in the area, please join us!  We'd like you to let us know in advance if you plan to come by emailing us at admin@pvhs75.com , but even if you show up unannounced, we'd love to see you!

In case you're no longer familiar with the area, Domani is located in the King's Shopping Plaza, formerly the Stop & Shop/MediMart Plaza, in Hillsdale.

New Item:  Pascack Valley's Indian mascot not going anywhere . . . for now

The Indian mascot has been a controversial subject in the Pasack Valley community, particularly in the past several weeks.

According to a published article  appearing in the August 17, 2015 edition of the Pascack Press, a 2015 PV graduate has circulated an internet petition to be submitted to the Pascack Valley High School adminstration in support or the preservation of the Indian mascot, amid concerns that the school would be bowing to pressure by some to have it removed.

In the meantime, a counter-petition has been circulating urging the Board to drop the Indian mascot.

The Pascack Press reports Superintendent Erik Gundersen (no relation to Nancy) has acknowledged that the "district faced criticism from some for the fact our mascot is a picture of an Indian with a mohawk (haircut)," and that some "believe the image is racially offensive to Native Americans."  Nonetheless, Gundersen characterized the petition supporting the mascot as being  premature, or not necessary at all, as there has been no motion or Board discussion about changing it.

Thank you, Barbara Miles Dillon, for your thoughtful donation.  Even though you will not be able to attend, you are still going to be part of it. We ll be thinking about you!

Monday, August 17, 2015

Here are photos of the latest classmates joining us.  Debra and Sue, we'd love to post more recent photos of you, if you don't mind sending them to us at lesley@pvhs75.com .  Better yet, why not complete a Classmate Profile Questionnaire?  As for Frank, we'll go with your old picture.

With just about two months left, Jane Buckley Schwartz, Frank Piscopo, Susan Wiss Morgan, Kim Kohlsaat, Debra Klempau, Patricia Schank Carlson and Dan Taylor have purchased tickets.  At this point, 79 people have their seats reserved for the main event.

Saturday, August 15, 2015

Patti Martin, Greg Goodell, Nancy Bonard and Mary Jane Gray Weck have each bought tickets to the reunion!  Patti will be travelling from her home in North Carolina, while Nancy, Greg and Mary Jane retained their New Jersey heritage and live locally.  With just over two months to go, we have now sold 70 tickets to the reunion.  Our goal is to have 100 classmates attending, and if ticket sales continue the way they have, we may just have a shot at it.

Friday, August 14, 2015

Thom Huettner will be making his way down from his home in Cape Cod to join us on October 17.  Thom was a pleasant surprise, as we hadn't heard back from him at all until he bought his ticket.  Meanwhile, we will also be looking forward to seeing Dave Speiser, one of those classmates who headed down to Florida before having been graduated from PV.  Dave just purchased his ticket as well,

Thursday, August 13, 2015

Nancy Meyer Luce will be attending!  Nancy has become our adopted member of the class of 1975, having actually been graduated in 1974.  She was a big part of our reunion in 2010, and even became a member of the "Breakfast Club," which presided over closing ceremonies for the 35 year reunion at the Suburban Diner at about 4:00 am Sunday morning following the main event (see photo below). Nancy, thanks for the donation!

From Barbara Wilkins Reames Williams:

"Hey Class of '75, Barbara Wilkins Reames Williams unfortunately can not attend the 40th reunion. We have an adult son that will be getting married during that time. Would've been much easier to attend a reunion during the summer months. Being retired now, my husband and I need more time to budget and make plans for traveling. We just started living on fixed incomes and bills come first as always. Please keep my information and let me know in the future what goes on. Maybe the 45th reunion if we have one. Thanks for the invite and I'll be thinking of all of you. Have a great reunion and I'll be looking forward to seeing pictures on FB or PVHS '75 website. Take care everyone and God Bless!!

Wednesday, August 12, 2015

As you may recall, Steve Hager moved to Florida after sophomore year, and never received his PV degree.  He still lives in Florida, but he'll be joining us on October 17.  Steve has two adult children, enjoys scuba diving and golf, and has become a bit of a gym rat in recent years.  Thanks, Steve, for the donation!

Monday, August 10, 2015

Both the states of Colorado and Connecticut will be represented on October 17, 2015.

We are happy to report that Kelly Spence  and Sharon Taylor Canale both signed up for the reunion.  Sharon shares with us that she recently celebrated her 34th wedding anniversary by walking the Camino de Santiago, and that she is happily retired and the proud grandmother of two. We hope that Kelly and Sharon would send us more recent photos that we could post, though we're sure they haven't changed much in 40 years!

Friday, August 7, 2015

Welcome home, Rick Cordova!

Rick just signed up, and will be travelling here from his Arizona home to join us for the the reunon.  It's been a long time, Rick!  Looking forward to seeing you!

(Editor's note:  Rick has since advised that due to unforseen circumstances, he wil not be attending.)

Wednesday, August 5, 2015

Michelle Stasko Benasillo and Art Stone are the two most recent classmates who have signed up for the reunion on October 17.  Extra special thanks to Art for his generous donation.

Friday, July 31, 2015

We made the papers!  Our class photo from earlier this month was published in the Pascack Valley Community Life on July 30, 2015.  While the PVCL is not exactly the New York Times, it was nice to have some recognition and to keep the reunion conversaton going, at least on a local level.

Help pick songs for the reunion playlist!

One of the things that defined our high school years was the music.  When you think back to some of the best times in high school there was always some song or some band that seemed to have laid down the soundtrack for the memory.  That's why we decided to recreate that soundtrack for our reunion by having the class decide which songs will be played.  That's a lot better than have our music selected by some twenty-something year-old disc jockey who thinks we were all protesting the war, doing the hustle while listening to the Bee Gees in our leisure suits and love beads.  Through our music survey  we are asking each classmate who will be joining us to choose three of his or her most memorable songs from the era to be played on Saturday night, October 17.  We'll squeeze as many of those songs as we can into the playlist, and expect to be able at least to play each person's number one choice, if not all three. So what  is it you would you like to hear?  Some Lou Reed?  The Dead?  The Who?  The Stones?  Zepplin? The Allman Brothers?  Air Supply?  (Just kidding about that last one.  Their first single was not released unitl 1976 and are ineligible for our playlist.)  In any case, as long as the song was released as a single or on album between 1971 and June 1975, you can choose it for the playlist by clicking here.

Sunday, July 26, 2015

(Note:  Since posting, we discovered that having comments appear before "The Smoke Signal" pushed everything too far down the page.  We therefore have a special page for Comments that you can access here.  We still would like to hear from you!)

We've had over 5,000 visitors to this website since we launched on November 26, 2015.  Roughly speaking, that means each surviving member of our class has visited an average of 18 times!  However, this has pretty much been a one-sided conversation.  Even though we've have reserved a place down at the bottom of the column for comments, we have not had one person commenting!  So, we've decided to make it easier.  Rather than making you scroll all the way down to the bottom, we have inserted a place to accommodate your comments and questions right at the top!  Do you have a question about the reunion?  Have some news you'd like to share?  Would you like to brag about a son, daughter, or grandchild?  Like to share a memory?  Do you want to find out what happened to a classmate you've lost touch with?  This is the place! Any question, comment or shout-out you have is welcome, as long as it is consistent with the good spirit of this website.

As always, if you'd like to contact us without posting it to the website, you may do so at admin@pvhs75.com .

Sunday, July26, 2015

We may be calling you!

Over the past couple weeks, some of the members of the reunion committee have been reaching out to classmates by telephone to see if they would like to join us on October 17, 2015.  Debby Bucky Birrer, Kit Villani Argenti, Art Stone, Liz Janssen, Bob Zorowitz, John Murano, Bob Hubbard, Carol Rekow Flach, Kathie Schaefer Warner, Jordan DeFlora and Frank Piscopo have all volunteered to work the phones for our "pledge drive."  At the start of our phone campaign, we had about 79 people who told us they'll be coming, 40, who have said "maybe," and about 30 who cannot/will not attend.  We still have about 140 classmates who have not told us anything, one way or another.  It is those classmates that we are first calling.

Most of the people we have called have been pleasantly surprised to hear from us.  That happens when you receive an unexpected call from someone you haven't heard from in 40 years, even if you don't remember who they are!  Occassionally, we get a response like one we received from a classmate who will remain nameless, who snapped back, "Why are you bothering me????"  (To quote Queen Elsa, "Let it go!")  That is the rare exception, as most people are positive and receptive, even if they decline the invitation.

If you have already purchased your ticket, you're safe! However, if you have not previously responded to us, or if you said maybe, you can look forward to our call!

So, where are we staying for the reunion?

Today, we made reservations for the Super 8 next door to the DoubleTree, where the main event is taking place October 17.  At about 75 bucks per night for the group rate, you can't beat the price. Jessica, the general manager there, is super nice. And if you check out the reviews on TripAdvisor over the past six months, people have been saying some really nice things about the place.  (Editor's note:  In the interest of literary style, we have employed the editorial we in this blurb.  For those less concerned about style, you may substitute the words "John Murano" for "we.")

Information about accomodations for the reunion can be found here.
An interesting thing we discovered in searching for a classmate

We seemed to have briefly lost Diane Cikutovitch Renee Kovic, who has disappeared from Facebook.  That's okay, because it looks like we found her again, though we still don't know if she plans to attend.  Very interesting fact we learned while rediscovering Diane was that her mom owned the locally famous Cookie Cupboard in Emerson, which was, and now once again is, the Emerson train station.

Monday, July 20, 2015

  • Don't forget, we have plans for an entire weekend of activities, not just the evening of October 17.  Check out our Schedule of Events.
  • We had a pretty busy weekend of ticket sales.  Nancy Gundersen has purchased tickets and will be making what might be her first appearance at a PV reunion . . . Nancy, you could correct us if we're wrong on that one.  Also buying tickets were Pam Newton Fatovic, Lori Sadlon Zucaro, Andy Zucaro, Sue Casper Andrews and Martin Greif. Thanks to Sue Casper Andrews and Martin Greif for their donations!

Friday, July 17, 2015

  • Ed Berger  and Carolyn Bowler Joy have bought their tickets for the reunion.  Ed, Richard SpielmannJoe Brunner, Doug Anderson and Diane Fulcher Koester have all recently contributed to Classmate Profiles.
  • So what are the plans for music?  We will be compiling a playlist of favorite songs from our high school years, 1971 through 1975 as selected by our classmates.  Start thinking about what you might like to hear, and watch for our survey, which will be going out within the next week or so.  Each classmate attending will be able to select at least one song for the playlist.

In case you're wondering who that is in the group photo at PV, that's Art Stone, Jordan DeFlora, Bob Zorowitz, Kerry Fay Craffey, Greg Goodell, Mary Jane Gray Weck,  Bob Hubbard, Diana Grassi Grossman, Barbara Mansfield Spielmann, Richard Spielmann, Sandy Sunny Kaczala Irwin,  Jane Buckley Schwartz, John Murano, Karen Arigot O'Reilly, Tom Shine and Kathie Schaefer Warner.

Thanks to Diana Grassi Grossman and her husband,  Glenn, for becoming the latest sponsors of the reunion.  The Grossmans are owners of Blend Air Mechanical - Heating Cooling and Plumbing, which serves Bergen, Rockland, Orange and Weschester Counties.

We thank Richard and Barabara Spielmann for their donation, and we are glad that they will both be joining us October 17, 2015.

We heard from Mike Thomas, who is living in Easton, Pennsylvania, home of former heavyweight champ Larry Holmes, and just across the Jersey state line.  We hope to see Mike at the reunion, though his heavy travel schedule which takes him away months at a time may interfere with that.

July 8, 2015

On Tuesday, July 7, 16 classmates gathered on the campus of Pascack Valley High School for our "class picture."  It was a memorable occasion in itself, as some of us have not seen each other in 40 years.  To add style and class to the session, Kathie Schaefer Warner secured the services of a professional photographer, who patiently helped us all to stand up straight and look nice for the camera.

The glorious results will be posted here for everyone's perusal in the next few days.

Afterwards, most of the attendees headed out to the Iron Horse for a pre-reunion gathering and to feast on pickles, cole slaw, burgers and railroad ties. All in all, it was a good preview as to what will be in store for us on October 17.

Our group portrait from the Iron Horse, taken by our highly skilled professional waitress, is posted above.

Special thanks to PV principal Tom DeMaio for his cooperation in arranging this event!

Tuesday, July 7, 2015

So far, it looks like we'll have good weather for the photo shoot tonight at Pascack Valley High School.  As of 5:00 am, the WCBS forecast indicates the last threat of thundershowers will occur at 5:00 pm, and that there is only a 20% chance of precipitation occurring at 7:30 pm.  Other forecasts are not so optimistic, but they are not really worth considering.  Last headcount we have is for about 17 of us to be there.  For those who will be attending, we have a large table reserved at the Iron Horse.  Save your appetite!

It was great hearing from Anthony Damico this weekend.  After suffering health issues over the past few years, Anthony is keeping  busy with meeting the demands of being a single parent to his two teenage children, with his daughter having recently completed three years her high school's pre-med program, and his son entering the high school's pre-engineering program as a freshman this fall. Anthony makes his home in Boyton Beach, Florida   . . .  maybe we should have the reunion in Florida, as it seems more classmates live there than any other state!

Friday, July 3, 2015

Plans are underway for our "Class Photo" on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at 7:30 pm.  We have made arrangements with PVHS principal Tom DeMaio to have the school marquee sign (shown above) display a special message for our class, while we have a photograph of our group gathered around to be used in the Pascack Valley Community Life as well as this website. Afterwards, we'll be headed to the Iron Horse (note change of venue) for a pre-reunion get together.  Please contact john@pvhs75.com for more information and details.  We hope to see you there!

Wednesday, June 24, 2015

Due to vacation, we won't be posting too much new stuff here until July 3.  In the meantime, if you're local, please make plans to join us on July 7.

Saturday, June 20, 2015

On Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at 7:30 pm, members of the Pascack Valley Class of 1975 will gather at the school to pose for reunion publicity photos, to be used in the local newspapers and this website.  Afterwards, we'll all be heading out to Domani in Hillsdale for some dinner and conversation.  So far, there's been a lot of interest and it looks like we'll have a pretty good turnout.  If you're interested in joining us, contact john@pvhs75.com

Patti Martin was back in Jersey this week for her daughter's wedding, and stopped by to say hello.  Patti has made her home in Wake Forrest, North Carolina for about ten years now, and was happy to announce that she will be back on October 17 to attend the reunion.  Speaking of North Carolina, Diana Grassi Grossman will be also be leaving the Garden State for the Tar Heel State within the next few months, but count her in for the reunion as well, as she just bought tickets for her and her husband.

Sunday, June 14, 2015

We have some recent ticket sales to report.  Debbra Bassant Edwards, will be travelling to the reunion from Missouri, while Glenn Lutjens will be coming in from Colorado.  Joyce McCarthy Snyder and Gerry Murphy, who both make their respective homes in different parts of Pennslyvania, have also purchased tickets. Meanwhile, we've heard from Barabara Bober and Sue Cardinali Bothfeld, who who both said they hope to make it, Jay Gerbehy, who says he's thinking about it, and Kevin Mayer, who hasn't ruled it out.  On the other hand, Tom Mulligan stated gruffly, "You guys have fun."

Friday, June 12, 2015

It all kicks off Friday evening, October 16.  We have booked Domani Ristorante in Hillsdale, located in the Kings (formerly Stop & Shop) Shopping Plaza  at 8:00 pm.  This is where many of us will meet after the PV football game, or for those who are not into that, where things will get started.  More details as we get closer to the event.

Wednesday, June 10, 2015

Kelly Spence is alive and well and living in Colorado, though he spends a lot of time on the road.  He hopes his busy work schedule allows him to join us in October. His wife Karen said she'd like to join Kelly in coming back east for the reunion and to enjoy some decent seafood, which we understand is rare in the Rockies.

Friday, June 5, 2015

Blast from the past!  We heard from Jim Manginelli, who will be attending the reunion with his wife of 25 years. Jim lives in a "nice home" in Mobile, Alabama, and is the proud grandfather of three.  Thanks, Jim, for the donation!

Tuesday, June 2, 2015

Following  up on the May 23 post, we heard back from Chuck Frahm, who advises that right now he's planning to attend.   His job situation may be taking him overseas in October, however, which may prevent him from doing so.

Sunday, May 31, 2015

We have some new Classmate Profiles!  Thanks to the creative efforts of Lesley Goddin, new entries have been posted for Nancy Conrad Lembke, Wayne Olsen, Vaune Albanese, Patti Martin, Robert Davis, Karen Kalfian, Bob Hubbard, Eugenia Slutzky Pinon, Carolyn Nagengast Martynowski, Lori Sadlon Zucaro, Glenn Andrews, Elizabeth Janssen, Cathy Stackpole, Gerry Murphy and  Jean Kleister Pagano.  Unfortunately, some technical difficulites have prevented us from immediately posting all the photos we received, but we should have straightened out shortly.

Update:  We were mistaken.  Lesley explains there were no technical difficulties, other than many classmates who completed their questionnaires without sending in photos. If you are one of these folks, please send a current photo to lesley@pvhs75.com .

Have you completed your Classmate Profile Questionnaire?

Do you remember Ms. Hering?  Marilyn Hering was a long time English teacher at PV who retired some years after we were graduated.  In her retirement she became an author of at least two novels; "A Woman Possessed" set within the abominable working conditions in the silk mills of Paterson, and "A Woman Beloved" a love story potraying the treatment of the mentally ill and alcoholism at the turn of the century.  Ms. Hering is one of three local self-publishing authors featured in the Record in April last year, which was followed up with an interview in June in the Pascack Valley Community Life.  Mrs. Hering now lives in Harrington Park, NJ.

  • Within the next few days we should have something to report on the scheduling of the Friday night event.  For those who attended the 2010 35 year reunion, Friday night at the Iron Horse was just as much fun as the main event.  Since we are expecting a larger crowd this time around, unfortunately, the Horse’s party room would not have enough room to accommodate all of us.  Instead, Art Stone is now working something out with Domani (formerly Bensi), a casual restaurant and bar serving Italian food,  located the Kings (formerly Stop & Shop) Shopping Plaza in Hillsdale.  Stay tuned.
  • Also in our plans will be putting together a playlist for the reunion, with era appropriate music selected by members of the class.  We will be looking for input from everyone shortly.

Monday, May 25, 2015

  • Jean Kleister Pagano is the latest classmate to purchase tickets for the reunion.  Jean may win the award for the shortest distance traveled;  though she has previously made Colorado and Alaska her home, she is now retired and living in Ramsey.  Jean is the proud mother of four adult sons and three grandchildren, with another grandchild on the way.
  • Just a reminder that our website has so many interesting places to visit, including the digitized version of 1974 and 1975 yearbooks put together by Mary Riley Viehoefer, and  Whatever became of . . .  (teachers' edition), contributed by Bob Hubbard.  You may also want to share some of your own memories on the PV Memories page.  If you would like to contribute an idea, a page, a blog, an ongoing feature, or anything else, we'd like to hear from you!  Please contact us at admin@pvhs75.com.

When asked about attending the reunion, Chuck Frahm responded as follows:

Chuck declined further comment, leaving us to speculate whether that means he plans on going, needs a ride, or is undecided and flipping a coin.

In any case, we do hope to see Chuck in October.  We haven't heard much from him in recent years, but understand he was with the FBI, and that before retiring, Chuck headed the counterterrorism division of the Bureau in New York .

Perhaps the most intriguing answer to the  "Whatever happened to . . . ?" question comes when it is followed by the name of classmate Wendy Naylor.  Actually, she no longer goes by that moniker, having acheived success as the popular new age musical artist known to her fans as Wah!  Wah! has made a name for herself among the yoga crowd establishing an extensive music catalogue, recording  20 albums and having her own YouTube music channel.  She has toured worldwide, authored several books, lectured at Princeton and was most recently featured in Ladies' Home Journal    Some people in our class are Wah! fans and have even seen her in concert without recognizing her as our classmate.  Earlier this month, John Murano, Bob Zorowitz  and Liz Janssen caught up with Wah! at a concert in New York State, and had the chance to chat with her after the show.

Her fans may call her Wah!, but to us, everyone knows it's Wendy!

Thursday, May 21, 2015

Nancy Conrad Lembke and her husband,Mike, will be making the trip from their home in Miramar, Florida to join us in October.  Nancy is a military counsellor and Mike an army chaplain, and have lived the nomadic military life for the past 36 years. They have two adult children and a two year old grandson, and look forward to their retirement when they will be moving to the Boston area to live closer to them.  Let's hope Nancy hasn't become a Red Sox fan!

Tuesday, May 19, 2015

John Giacchi has plunked down his $65.00 and will be joining us October 17.  John lives in Park Ridge, as do many other classmates, where he tells us his heroes are his two wonderful sons.  After 36 years, he still does business as John's Tropical Fish Aquarium service, and says, "see y'all soon!!!"

Monday, May 18, 2015

And the winner is, Lesley Goddin!  Lesley was the lucky classmate who has won herself a $50.00 American Express gift card, by having her name drawn from amongst those classmates who have purchased a ticket for the reunion by the May 15, 2015 deadline. Thanks to everyone who bought their tickets already!  Having working capital helps us plan for a better event!

Monday, May 18, 2015

  • We are tallying up the ticket sales and will be having our drawing for the $50.00 Amex gift card shortly. The winner will be announced no later than Tuesday, May 19.  All classmates who have purchased a ticket before May 15, 2015 are eligible.
  • We are sad to report the passing last month of teacher Albert G. Kuehnapfel, 87, who was retired and living at Wallenpaupack Lake Estates, Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania.  He is survived by his wife of 66 years the former Miriam Lola Battistin
Robert Sean Leonard as Dr. James Wilson, and Hugh Laurie as Dr. Gregory House in House, MD

Saturday, May 16, 2015

We have recently learned that one of our teachers has a famous son.  Robert Sean Leonard, son of Spanish teacher and department head Robert Leonard, is best known for playing Dr. James Wilson in the television series House, M.D and Neil Perry in the movie Dead Poets Society, and won a Tony Award for his performance in The Invention of Love in 2001. He presently appears as Dr. Roger Kadar on the television series Falling Skies.  As for our Mr. Leonard, last we've heard, he's 83 years old and living in Waldwick.

You can check out what we've found out about some of our other teachers by visiting our page, "Whatever became of . . . ? (teachers' edition)"

Thursday, May 14, 2015

If you think you might have a shot at winning the award for the furtherst distance traveled for the reunion, think again.  Rob Denehy and his wife, Christina, just purchased their tickets for the reunion, and will be making the 6840 mile trip from their home in Dubai, UAE.  We look forward to seeing you, Rob, and thanks for the very generous donation!

Friday, May 8, 2015

Where are they now?  We've heard from a couple of classmates recently.  Here's what they're up to.

Bob Gitlin is known to his fans as Rocky Rhodes, cohosting the Rocky & Lissa morning drive time radio program at WKRZ, in the Scranton, Wilkes-Barre market.  You can listen live weekday mornings.  If you'd like to get in touch with Rocky, he's given us his email address at rocky@985krz.com .

Bob Alacci is living in Glassboro, New Jersey, with his wife of 33 years, Honora.  Bob was Director of Human Resources for the NFL league office, as well as NFL Films, before leaving due to health issues.

If you'd like share what you've been up to, please contact us at admin@pvhs75.com .  Better still, why not complete a classmate profile?

  • Thanks to the off duty detective work of  Police Chief Tom Shine,  it appears we have an address for our last missing classmate, Joe Brunner in Erie, Pennsylvania.  Thanks Tom!  That would make 100% of our classmates found! That’s pretty amazing!
  • In the meantime, we've also heard from some people who have recently told us they were coming, including Sandy Aramino, Jane Buckley Schwarz, John Giacchi, Carlyn Goldman, Mary Jane Gray Weck, Tom Shine, Paul Stuckey and Gloria Tomitsh Lituma.  As it stands, about 25% of the surviving members of our class have said to count them in, and we still have seven months to go!
  • We will be making an announcement about ticket sales in the early part of April.
  • Since we launched our site on November 26, 2014, we’ve had over 2000 visitors! The response we’ve had so far has far exceeded our expectations. Thanks, everyone!

Thursday, March 5, 2015

  • We have received word that on Friday, October 16 at 6 pm (Reunion Weekend), PV will be hosting a football game against Old Tappan. Since PV no longer faces Pascack Hills in football, Old Tappan has now become PV's arch football rival.  Our plans for Reunion Weekend now include, tentatively, the football game Friday, October 16 followed by a get together at the Iron Horse or Cornerstone, after which we will hop over to Lou's Tavern in Hillsdale. Saturday's schedule includes a tour of the high school Saturday morning tentatively followed by lunch at Wood Dale Park, and of course, the big event at DoubleTree in Mahwah that evening. On Sunday we will have breakfast at a place to be announced.  Check back here often for details.

Wednesday, March 4, 2015

  • The first five classmate profiles have been posted, with more on the way! Lesley Goddin has done an impressive job of putting together some creative questions, and assembling and editing the responses submitted by our classmates.  If you haven't done so already, please complete the classmate profile questionnaire, and don't forget to send a current photo!  Even if you don't plan on attending the reunion, we'd like to hear from you.  Nicely done, Lesley!
  • The 1974 Warrior yearbook is now here, joining the 1975 edition in our website library.  Thanks again, Mary!
  • We need contributors!  If you would like to contribute a blog, article, feature, photos or video to this website, or just have an idea to make it better, please contact us at admin@pvhs75.com.  It could be a one time thing, or something that you might want to contribute on a regular basis, but whatever it is, please help us make this website awesome!
  • Our website program does not have a spellcheck feature. How cruel!!!  If you spot any errors, please bring them to our attention.

Thursday, February 26, 2015

  • The 1975 Warrior yearbook is here!   Thanks to the efforts of classmate Mary Riley Viehoefer, we now have a digitized copy of the 1975 Warrior yearbook on our website, with the 1974 yearbook on it's way! Mary has skillfully restored the yearbook in digitzed form to be almost as clean, clear and colorful as before it spent 30 years in your mother's attic.  Thanks, Mary!!!!
  • Meanwhile, Lesley Goddin is continuing her work on Classmate Profiles, which will include your responses to some creatively interesting questions presented in her survey.  This promises to be a great feature, which we hope to get started shortly.  Haven't answered the survey yet?  Here's where you can get started!
  • On the morning following graduation, a number of members of the class of 1975 gathered on the campus of Alphonsus College to watch the sunrise, celebrating the moment with song and dance. If you were one of the folks that was there, please share your recollections in our new feature page, "PV Memories".
  • We've lost another classmate.  Matt Veraldo, who attended PVHS with us for his freshman and sophomore years, passed away in Florida in January.  Please remember Matt and his family,
  • A special thanks to Carol Rekow Flach, Debby Bucky Birrer, Jordan DeFlora, Kit Villani Argenti, Kathie Schaefer Warner, Art Stone and Lesley Goddin, who all assembled for the meeting of the reunion committee on February 3, 2015.  Thanks to an app called ooVoo, Lesley made her appearance via teleconference from New Mexico.
  • We plan to begin ticket sales in early April, once we have our projections and budget together.  In the meantime, details as they exist can be found further down on this page.
  • There's an outside shot that Homecoming will be the Friday night of the reunion weekend.  Last year, the high school initiated efforts to gather PV alumni to make this a special event, and we hope to make it part of our festivities.
  • If you haven't done so already, please sign in and let us know whether you are planning to attend the reunion, and what you've been up to. We not only would like to get a headcount, but we'd like to know you're out there, even if you can't make it.   A list of classmates that we've heard from can be found here.
  • In case you haven't heard, the reunion "main event" will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Mahwah, on Saturday, October 17, 2015.
  • The Saturday reception at the DoubleTree will not be the only event scheduled, as we hope to have activities scheduled the entire weekend. We would like to have something at a local venue for Friday night, possilbly the Iron Horse.  We also plan on  having a tour of the high school on Saturday morning, and possilbly be part of the homecoming festtivies for the high school, should the school schedule it for that weekend.

Classmate news

February 2, 2015 - We lost classmate Susan Micklas, who passed away from complications relating to pneumonia.

December 4, 2014 - We are saddened to learn about the passing of Brian Begen, who has succumbed to a long illness.

November 30, 2014 - One of the great things about trying to locate our classmates is getting in touch with friends with whom we may not have spoken in years.  On the other hand, we also learn about those who are no longer with us.  For classmates who have kept in touch, and in particular, those who attended the 35 year reunion, we were all shocked and saddened to hear about the recent passing of Lorainne Helfenbein Minetto and Laura Jean Suessman Holland.  However, just in the past few days, we learned about the passing of five classmates.  Although none of them passed away very recently,  we were not made aware of any of them being lost until now.  They are Jane Shattuck Eacret, on August 23, 2013,  Jean Vernon Ellsweig, on March 18, 2012, Mindy Cooper Godfrey, on November 9, 2011, Chuck Romolo on August 18 2009 and Doug Politzer on October 8, 2005.  Along with our other departed classmates, we will keep their memories alive in our hearts as we gather together for our 40 year reunion.
